Choosing 'Growth' to Transform My Year: Embrace, Empower, and Elevate Every Aspect of Motherhood, Marriage, and Life

This year, I’ve chosen a word to guide me, inspire me, and shape the way I approach life: Growth. It’s such a simple word, yet it carries so much power. Growth is about change, challenge, and moving forward—all things I’m ready to embrace in every area of my life. Let’s talk about what this means for me, my family, and maybe even for you.

Growth as a Mom

As a mom of five kids under 15, growth often feels like it’s happening all around me. Shoes that don’t fit, outgrown clothes, and kids who are learning new skills faster than I can keep up are constant reminders of how quickly they’re growing. But this year, I want to focus on my own growth as a mom.

This year, I’m committing to intentional growth in how I communicate with them, manage the chaos, and create meaningful family moments. Growth might look like more patience during the morning hustle or finding better ways to juggle their activities with work. Either way, I’m ready to tackle it.

Growth in My Marriage

After 14 years of marriage to Rory, you might think we’ve figured everything out. Spoiler: we haven’t! And that’s okay. Growth in our marriage doesn’t mean fixing something that’s broken; it means strengthening what’s already good and finding new ways to connect.

This year, we’re focusing on making more time for each other. Whether it’s a gym date (Rory’s favorite) or a quiet evening brainstorming real estate projects together, I want us to grow as partners. Supporting his dreams while sharing mine is a big part of this, and I’m excited to see where this year takes us.

Growth in My Career

Balancing life as a space engineer and a mom of five can feel like walking a tightrope. But it’s also an opportunity for growth. My work challenges me intellectually and creatively, and I’ve realized how much I love solving problems and being part of a team. This year, I’m setting professional goals that push me out of my comfort zone—whether it’s taking on a leadership role or exploring new projects.

Growth also means giving myself grace. Some days, the scales tip too far one way or the other, and that’s okay. Learning to accept imperfection is part of the process.

Growth in My Business

Then2Became7 has been a passion project, but this year, I want to see it grow into something even bigger. My goal is to create content that truly resonates with other moms managing big families. From practical tips on organization to heartfelt stories about motherhood, I want to build a community where moms feel seen and supported.

Growth in my business also means learning new skills—hello, Pinterest and customized GPT bots—and finding ways to streamline processes so I can focus on what really matters: connecting with my audience.

Growth for My Kids

My kids are growing so quickly, it’s a full-time job just keeping up. But growth isn’t just about their height or shoe size; it’s about helping them become the best versions of themselves. This year, I want to encourage their passions and support their goals. Whether it’s Harmony’s artistic dreams or Ivaldi’s soccer aspirations, my job is to be their biggest cheerleader.

We’re also working on growth as a family—teaching kindness, resilience, and the importance of teamwork. Family meetings, chore charts, and one-on-one time are all part of the plan.

How You Can Embrace Growth

If the idea of picking a word for the year resonates with you, why not give it a try? Growth might not be your word, but there’s something powerful about choosing a focus for the year. Maybe you’re working on balance, joy, or creativity. Whatever it is, take small steps every day to bring that word to life.

Growth isn’t always easy. It’s messy, uncomfortable, and sometimes downright frustrating. But it’s also exciting, rewarding, and transformative. Whether it’s personal growth, family growth, or professional growth, every step forward is worth celebrating.
