Snow Days and Volleyball Plays: A Weekend to Remember

club volleyball kids in sports parenting moments proud parent moments teamwork wins volleyball season weekend recap Jan 20, 2025

This weekend was one for the books, full of snow, teamwork, and a lot of proud parenting moments. Over the course of 24 hours, several inches of snow transformed our little corner of the world into a winter wonderland. The kids were absolutely thrilled. Between shoveling driveways and Kaydence’s first volleyball tournament of the season, we had a weekend packed with activity, learning, and just the right amount of chaos.

A Blizzard of Fun

When the snow started falling Friday night, the kids were buzzing with excitement. By Saturday morning, we woke up to a blanket of white, the kind of snow that’s perfect for building forts and snowmen. Odin was out early, bundled up and armed with a shovel, taking great joy in turning a chore into a game. Harmony and Villi wasted no time joining Odin in the snow after they woke up, and they quickly cleared the driveway and sidewalks.

Kaydence Takes the Court

Sunday wasn’t about snowballs and ice, though. It was the start of Kaydence’s club volleyball season! Her first tournament had us loading up the car with snacks, extra water bottles, and, of course, lots of cheers and encouragement.

The day started off a little rough. Kaydence’s team lost their first two matches, but watching them play was inspiring. It was clear they were still figuring out how to work together as a team, but you could see the potential shining through. Each set brought more communication, more confidence, and more determination.

By the time they hit their final match of the day, something clicked. The girls were covering for one another, calling plays, and celebrating every little victory on the court. It was so exciting to watch them win that match, and Kaydence was beaming with pride.

She told me afterward that the team had learned so much in just one day. They started recognizing each other’s strengths and weaknesses, building trust, and realizing the importance of working together. As a parent, it’s moments like these that make the early mornings, long drives, and hours in the stands absolutely worth it. Watching her grow, both as an athlete and as a team player, fills my heart with joy.

A Cozy End to the Day

When we got home from the tournament, the snow was still falling, but the kids were all tuckered out from their adventures. Harmony had settled into a cozy spot on the couch with her sketchbook, and Villi and Ivaldi were deep into a game of building LEGO skyscrapers.

Looking Ahead

As we tucked the kids into bed last night, the snow outside finally began to slow, leaving a sparkling blanket over the world. Kaydence fell asleep with her volleyball jersey still draped over the edge of her bed, no doubt dreaming of the season ahead.

This weekend wasn’t just about the snow or volleyball—it was about the lessons learned and the memories made. Watching Kaydence’s determination and growth, seeing the joy in the boys’ snow-filled laughter, and witnessing Harmony’s creativity in action reminded me once again how lucky we are to experience these moments together.

Here’s to more snowy adventures, successful tournaments, and cozy family nights. Let’s see what the rest of this season—and winter—has in store!
